Sombra was in Duplicity from March 20, 2022 - January 10, 2023, and in that time became close with a small handful of people, tried (and failed) to hack Duplicity government tech repeatedly, and otherwise kept herself busy with the following: snooping about, hacking people with shitty cybersecurity, programming a virtual pet app for herself and no one else, stealing tech from Tony Stark, getting citations for stupid things, annoying her Dominant (Agent South Dakota, who she's been contracted to since April 3, 2022 up until the day Sombra left), pulling stupid pranks, building computers and other machines (some sexy some not) for fun, playing whatever sexy MMORPGs Duplicity may have, and otherwise being a wild slut because hey, when in Rome.
Not being able to hack into the city's government tech and getting otherwise punished for things like housing violations was particularly difficult for her, as Sombra generally doesn't consider rules to be something that applies to her - which resulted in her being more energetic and restless than usual. That on top of not being able to travel the world as she pleased, she'd easily fallen in the annoying habits listed above, as well as a worsening caffeine addiction. But on the flipside, being limited does mean that she often indulged in the fun side of the city too, became much, much more sexually free (from a starting point of being pretty open anyway but damn has this place done horny things to her brain), and came to discover and embrace some specific kinks she hadn't gone too deep into before. As for her significant relationships, there are two that demand mentioning: Agent South Dakota, her contracted Dominant (who she had wrapped around her little finger) but also one of her closest, genuine friends, and Cole Cassidy, an old drinking buddy from her world turned lover/boyfriend in Duplicity before he left the city in November 2023.
Despite her troublemaking, Sombra adjusted to the city (and how to play it's game) well enough, and made her money through independent programming work. So she said. Personality: CLEVER:
"Look, someone has to be ready when all your careful planning doesn't pan out." Quick-witted, intelligent, and adaptable, where others rely on things going the way they planned? Sombra is the one who adapts and improvises on the fly when everything goes to shit. She's quick, clever, and resourceful - and as an orphan of war raised by a street gang (Los Muertos), it was from a very early age that she learned to rely on these traits, helping her survive in a world that left thousands of children like her behind. Using her self-taught skills in computer hacking and cryptography, even as a little girl Sombra was stealing information from the police (after tricking them with her sweet little girl with a gift basket routine) to sell to Los Muertos. Her clever mind is seen time and time again in her various missions as well: in the way she uses her environment to her advantage in creative ways, hacking through security systems and tech she's encountering for the first time as though it's second nature (while also being actively shot at), making snap decisions, tricking soldiers into lowering their guard so she can better take them down - all while working her own angles. It doesn't matter how much fire she plays with, Sombra's confident enough in herself that she hardly worries about how she's going to balance everything she has her mitts into. Especially as one of the observant, incessant few in the world who are digging into a dangerous global conspiracy - one that's noticed her before, and forced her to become better, at her technical skills and her ability to learn, react, and use.
MANIPULATIVE:
"If you hold the information, you hold all the cards." Blackmailing government officials and powerful people, gathering every scrap of classified information she can to dangle above someone's head when she needs them in her pocket, blasting past every firewall and security measure that tries to stop her, Sombra will do whatever the hell she has to in order to control and manipulate those in power. She isn't interested in money (she just steals what she needs, when she needs, if Talon hasn't given her enough) - Sombra's platinum currency is information, and it's the only currency worth a damn to her. For her? The ends justify the means, and she'll make a puppet of whoever she needs to, for power or pleasure - so long as those who need help the most aren't knocked further down. Sombra acts in the interest of the people (so she believes), not the corrupt rich and powerful whom she has no problems manipulating in order to get closer to her own, personal goals.
SELF SERVING:
Talon, Overwatch, Vishkar, every other company that wants a piece of the world's power - none of them are worth more than what they can give her in her own search for the truth, the real truth. They're tools. Means to an end. Sure, technically she belongs to Talon, a terrorist group that opposes everything Overwatch stands for, and sure, she does their missions and kills whoever gets in her way, but Sombra isn't exactly dedicated to the organization. Hell, she even intentionally botches an assassination mission to instead secretly blackmail their target into being her own personal informant. So why stay? Because they provide her funding, equipment, all the latest tech, upgrades to her cybernetics - everything she needs in her pursuit of what really matters: a conspiracy she's been trying to expose for years, the mystery of who really runs the world. To call her self-serving doesn't mean she can't make an actual friend or two (you know, without the blackmail), though - instead, it means that when Baptise (an old friend and former member of Talon) reaches out to her to help find an Overwatch doctor to warn her that Talon has targeted her, Sombra has no qualms about going behind Talon's back to do it.
FLIPPANT:
"You're taking this veeery seriously." Talkative, intentionally annoying, and an all around brat, Sombra very rarely seems to take the situations and people around her seriously. She frequently taunts and teases, is openly disrespectful, and gives backhanded compliments and fun-making observations freely - even to people like Doomfist and Reaper, both of whom are her superiors. Even in the middle of a tense, stealthy mission, she'll find time to pull stupid little pranks (like closing a hacked door on Reaper's face) and laugh openly about it, and frequently uses her hacking skills to do things like change people's passwords on them, crash the computers of whoever the hell she feels like, clear the debt of everyone in a poor neighbourhood through her hacking, and otherwise "improve" tech (and toys) that may or may not have been stolen. (They're stolen. She stole them.) Powers and Abilities: HACKING 💜 "Anything can be hacked... or anyone." One of the world's most notorious hackers, Sombra can hack into just about any security system in existence no matter how advanced, gaining access to classified files and information she then uses for her own personal goals. Computers, machines, mech, weapons systems - anything with code, anything electronic, is something she can manipulate. Even the very tech that others are wearing, wielding, or connected to (like cybernetic limbs) aren't safe, as her hacking can temporarily disable their use. And while she does have an entire hacker den filled with tech and computers, Sombra's equipped herself to hack on the move as well as at a desk, manipulating her environment to protect herself and reach areas she otherwise couldn't.
——— GAME NERFS: Sombra's hacking has not and will not work on LIES/Duplicity government tech.
STEALTH 💜 Can cloak herself and become fully invisible, even while hacking. Technically indefinite so long as she's conscious, however, cloak will drop if she takes or does damage, as it will disrupt her invisibility tech. She moves slightly faster while stealth is active.
TRANSLOCATOR 💜 Stolen teleportation device she's modified for her own needs. Sombra can put one of her translocators anywhere and, when activated, it will translocate her to the device's location.
EMP 💜 Can discharge electromagnetic energy within a certain radius, anything electronic within it will be temporarily disabled (energy shields cancelled, turrets disengaged, enemy tech and abilities blocked, omnics/robots physically incapacitated, etc).
COMBAT 💜 She might be a nerd but by god does she handle herself well in the field. Light and tiny, Sombra is able to climb, parkour, leap, run, fight, and shoot quick and fast, and is proficient with both firearms and close quarter/hand to hand combat, able to toss around her opponents no matter how much bigger than her they are - especially when paired with her various tech based abilities.
